A Good Laugh

Can you remember when was the last time you had a good, hearty laugh? If you have one recently then good for you, you are coping well; if you can't recall having any then you should consider making some changes to your life style. Have you ever wondered what had happened to all those laughter that you used to have when you were much younger? Have we forgotten how to laugh as we grow older? Try to trace back to those times when you really had a good laugh. Was there anything in common among those laughing moments? I can only think of one and that is, as a kid we were all very simple-minded. We were not bothered then by whatever was happening around the world, in the country or even within the neighbourhood. We were only interested in whatever was at hand then, whether we were playing in the playground, singing on a swing or wading in the pool. We were totally involved both mentally and phyiscally with our play and were thus able to really have a good time. Most children have always enjoyed a carefree life in the world of their own. They invent their own games, set their own rules and everyday is another day of new discovery. Then as we grow older, we come into contact with another world - the real world. Suddenly we realised that life is more than just playing and singing. Other than PLAY, there is WORK and we were told that work must always come before play. We need to earn the privilege to play - something that we had taken for granted as a kid, and to earn that privilege we need to work hard, sometimes very hard, for it. Parents start to set the rules - No work, no play. No results, no tv. No this, no that and that marked the beginning of a stressful life. We are constantly being reminded to perform, if not outperform, and to deliver the expected results or we would have to face the music. Life becomes so involved with results and high expectations that we gradually forget how to laugh or worse what a laughter is. While we are at work, we think of play; while we are playing, we worry about work. Eventually, we end up not being able to complete our tasks satisfactorily and also not being able to have the good time we are supposed to have. If this life style sounds familiar to you then it's about time you do something about it. Bring back the simple-minded child in you and laughter will follow closely behind. When at work, take your work seriously and not get distracted unnecessarily; when at play, play your heart out and leave your work at the desk. Learn from the child and live like a child - live in the PRESENT not in the PAST or in the FUTURE. Laugh as you would as a child and soon it will become second nature to you. A good laugh not only drives away your woe, it will also affect the mood of those around you. Laugh and the world will laugh with you. Are you laughing yet? :-D
